Google and Yahoo both are different as well as top search engine in the world, both have different algorithms. But optimizing your site for Google should fetch you high results on Yahoo as well. Google uses fractional matching of keywords; in other hand Yahoo uses precise matching.

I would say Google focuses more on off-page optimization such as backlinks whereas Yahoo is more focused on on-page optimization such as keyword density, H1 tages etc...

Google gives more importance to the quality and quantity of back links, while Yahoo relies more on a well done on-page optimization.

1. Google's algorithm differs from Yahoo and Bing. Radically.
2. Doing SEO for Google will not necessarily get you similar results for all other SE, as their algorithm differs so much
3. Yahoo is no longer relevant, at least for the near future, as Yahoo will very soon use Bing as a search engine.
4. Bing gets SOME results similar, but remember that Bing target is different - it's marketed as a decision engine, not just an information digger. So quality of content is more importat for Bing.
