Does using Google adwords increase your ranking?

Is there some embedded algorithm that Google gives preference to their commercial customers?

Of course it will not be admitted officially.. but does anyone have any reason to believe they are doing this, or any

examples of it?

I think it somehow increases your page ranking, as far as I know google has numerous partnerships with other properties, so that your results appear on many sites.
